HealthNew! Common dust masks and respirators. Symptoms of fiberglass poisoning. Injured by fiberglass exposure and looking for simple, cost-effective ways to improve your health which don't involve doctors and lots of money? Sick of being told it's all in your head? Look no further. U.S. Government research on fiberglass' effects on human DNA Damage to DNA, the building blocks of human life, is thought to be a first step toward cancer. This research shows fiberglass has the capacity to seriously damage DNA in humans. Working in a building in which a lot of your co workers seem to have similar health complaints? Find out what three Cornell University researchers had to say about the mineral fibers and "sick building syndrome." More experiments in far-flung laboratories are turning up evidence of fiberglass carcinogenicity. In a recent round of studies, in Scotland, rats grew tumors, cancers and even mesothelioma from exposure to "e-glass" fibers like the ones used in the aerospace industry. Industry-sponsored inhalation study backfires! Studies in a secretive Swiss laboratory, where rodents are forced to inhale fiberglass, produced mesothelioma, the rare and very deadly lung cancer almost exclusively associated with asbestos. This happened only six months into a two-year study! Highlights of the Swiss hamster study. Containing many excerpts. The fiberglass manufacturing plant in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada was one of the dirtiest. An epidemiological study in the mid 1980s showed Sarnia fiberglass workers' lung cancer rate to be roughly double that of the general population. The plant closed in 1991, but the workers are still sick. The Occupational Health Clinic for Ontario Workers (OHCOW) has been helping former Owens Corning Fiberglas workers from Sarnia with workers' compensation claims. OHCOW wrote a report about its experiences and the knowledge gleaned from these workers. More information about allergies, dust, immune response and the respiratory system.
