The Least Sustainable President(Please help impeach him or his evil vice president immediately!)With the right leadership, the world could chart a course toward sustainability. The United States, the world's largest consumer of goods and energy, must lead the way. Unfortunately, the current U.S. leadership—Bush & Co.—charts our course in the exact opposite direction. Bush is the product of one of America's wealthy, privileged families, has never really had to work for anything, and therefore, cannot understand how most Americans live. The Bush Family has a long history of corrupt political/business dealings. Despite their apparent eagerness to start wars all over the planet, Bush and most of his top advisors avoided actual military service. The best solution to deal with Bush and his criminal administration is impeachment. On April 25, 2007, U.S. Representative Dennis Kucinich, a progressive candidate for U.S. President, filed impeachment articles against Vice President Dick Cheney. Kucinich needs the support of your congressional representative in this effort, and you should urge them to sign on as a co-sponsor, so or explain why they won't. Read the coverage from the Washington Post. Rep. Kucinich needs your vote in the Democratic Primary, as well as your financial support. Before we get to the case for impeachment, you may be wondering, how do we get out of Iraq? This is arguably the worst foreign policy blunder in U.S. history. Believe it or not, there is a way out. The Case for Impeachment 1. President George W. Bush, and people working directly for him, including the Vice President and Secretary of State, deliberately, materially and substantially overstated Saddam Hussein's nuclear, chemical and conventional weapons capabilities to Congress and to the American people on numerous occasions. Lying to Congress constitutes a high crime per Article 2, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution, and therefore, is an impeachable offense. 2. President George W. Bush, and people working directly for him, directed government employees to withhold information from Congress regarding the cost of numerous U.S. government programs, including a Medicare prescription drug plan. The information given by the Bush administration to Congress substantially understated the costs and potential future costs of the program. Knowingly providing outdated and inaccurate information to Congress, especially when more accurate information exists, constitutes a high crime and, therefore, is an impeachable offense. 3. President George W. Bush, and people working directly for him, illegally spied on American citizens. Since shortly after Sept. 11, 2001, the Bush administration has authorized hundreds and perhaps thousands of wiretaps on American citizens without obtaining a court order. This is in direct violation of the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). Not only is violating the civil rights of American Citizens a high crime and an impeachable offense, violation of the FISA law is a federal crime which carries penalties, including jail time. 4. Appointed incompetent persons to high office on the basis of past friendships instead of qualification. Bush's appointment of Michael Brown, who was unqualified for his post as director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, contributed to the deaths of innocent civilians and significant damage to public and private property within the country. Some of his cronies have gone on to become war profiteers. Appointing incompetent cronies to critical public service positions constitutes, at least, a high "misdemeanor" per Article 2, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution, and, therefore, is an impeachable offense. 5. Administration officials set up highly unusual channels within the Pentagon to undermine the normal flow of intelligence and send unvetted information to the highest levels of government. This was information known to be inaccurate by intelligence personnel and the national intelligence services of numerous friendly nations. As a result of information furnished by the Bush Administration, Congress voted to support an expensive and catastrophic war thousands of miles away against an enemy which posed no credible threat to the United States, and which was not involved in the Sept. 11 attacks on our country. Again, knowingly providing inaccurate information to Congress, with the intent to deceive on the most grave of all questions, clearly constitutes a high crime and, therefore, is an impeachable offense. 5. The Bush Administration has failed to protect the homeland on numerous occasions. As a soldier during the Vietnam War, Bush failed to finish military commitment to National Guard. In spite of receiving explicit warnings about Al Queda's desire to attack America, the Bush Administration failed to protect the country on Sept.11, 2004. Since then, the Bush Administration has failed to properly protect the country, including a failure to secure U.S. borders, and a failure to protect chemical plants, nuclear facilities and ports. Their utter failure to protect the homeland and implement specific recommendations made the the "9-11 Commission" caused the bipartisan commission to give Bush and Congress an F grade. Bush's failed Iraq policy has also made America less safe. Endangering the lives of American Citizens and the property of the American Government, or its citizens, constitutes a high crime and, therefore, is an impeachable offense. 6. Bush Administration officials, especially Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, worked to undermine accepted international protocols for treatment of warring parties, including the Geneva Conventions. Bush Administration officials fought for the right to torture prisoners, which tarnishes the reputation of the U.S. military and provides little or no useful information (people who are being tortured will say anything they think their torturer wants to hear). More important, our poor treatment of prisoners makes it more likely our soldiers and citizens who are taken hostage will be tortured, further endangering American lives. Violating international treaties of which this country is a signatory, and withholding this information from the Congress and the American people, is clearly an impeachable offense. 7. President George W. Bush, and people working directly for him, including Vice President Dick Cheney, initiated a costly and immoral war on Iraq. Administration officials willfully misled international bodies, including the United Nations, regarding the case for war and pre-war intelligence. All of the reasons for the war which were stated prior to the invasion have been proven false, including and most importantly the alleged existence of weapons of mass destruction and alleged ties between Iraq and the Al Queda terrorist network. Questions of war are the most grave issues to come before elected officials. In this case, it is now clear that the Bush Administration's case for war was inherently dishonest. The consequences of this failed policy are disastrous on many fronts, including the loss of American and coalition partner lives, the death of thousands of innocent Iraqis, the cost to the American taxpayers in dollars, the American reputation for fairness and honesty, and the growth of anti-American sentiment around the globe. We suggest this is an impeachable offense. To those who still (!!!) believe that the invasion of Iraq was not pre-ordained the moment Bush took office, consider the fact that most of the Bush inner circle, especially those involved in planning and executing the Iraq war, were members of the Project for a New American Century, a groups which openly advocated invading Iraq as early as 1992, puts the lie to any notion that the Bushies did not manipulate intelligence toward the pre-ordained result of an illegal and unnecessary war. Read the history of this group and their decade-long march toward war. If Bill Clinton can almost get impeached for getting a blow job in the room behind the Oval Office, then Bush deserves not only impeachment, but many fine years in a federal penitentiary. In reality, the Bush-Rove crime team has never been elected to office. They cheated. Find out a little bit more on how Bush cheated and what needs to be done to try and salvage what's left of our country.
